Asus Eee is very convenient to carry. It is my walkaround laptop wherever i go. The battery life could have been better though

The left-click on my Asus eee 701 behaves the same way. I feel like it happens more often after the computer warms up, which may be in line with the hairline crack your mention--it may worsen as the material expands.

Strangely enough, I recently started running Sugar OS (the OLPC or XO laptop OS) -- just to check out the OS -- and the left-click works fine there. I was ready to chalk it up to a bizarre software glitch, but your hardware explanation makes a lot more sense -- it's possible that the machine doesn't run as hot in Sugar.
